Bollywood Hairstyle Trends

The hair is the richest ornament of women. ~Martin Luther (so also for men right?Razz
When we think of Bollywood we have vivid imagination of people in colourful dresses dancing in groups, the theatrical expression of emotions and the endless changing of hairstyles from one scene to another. Since the beginning of Indian movies from the black & white days to the present Bollywood status, women and men have equally undergone transition in hairstyles. Remember those days when we used to watch Amitabh bachchan in Sholay in those long side burns, Amjat Khan in the curly frizzy hair & Hema Malini in bump its with side braids? And we used to think it was so cool and tried to emulate it. Not only that i have pictures of my dad and uncle adorning themSmile  .Through the decades , hairstyles have evolved and so also have our conceptions about it.
It was assumed that long hairstyles were for women and short ones for men. I say that people living in this century is the most blessed one when it comes to freedom of styling. One can be modern if he/she wishes . Nevertheless one can be as retro as she likes. No one sticks to the protocol nowadays .  People are experimenting with different kind of hairstyles and it is visible in Bollywood industry since in India movies depict the ongoing present day changes.
The long legged Deepika Padukon went from the long wavy hair to short layered haircut. Priyanka Chopra came to be famously known as “piggy chops” after her hairstyle makeover .  they curl it , straighten it  and go all the way to chopping it off too. There are the cute bangs that Katrina wears in Ajab prem ki kajab kahani (which makes her look 5 yrs younger than her age). Nonetheless, the ever chic Aishwariya Rai in the classic hair bun in Cannes will never go out of fashion. And the crazyyyy hair of kangna ranaut (which is my favourite).

Deepika and Priyanka in different hair style
I love the hippy hair styles in Hare rama hare Krishna movie – it screams “born wild and free”. And in its remake Deepika Padukon gets feather cut with laser finishing ,its just awesome and adds volume to her hair while she swings and sways to Dum maro dum. But sometimes i long for the good old days of huge wavy curls like Madhuri Dixits. Don’t u too?

Kanagana hair styles

One should be very careful while choosing hairstyles. Those with round face should never opt for straight  fringe as it will only make the face look shorter and rounder. Moreover if round face decides to go for short hair it should be layered to reduce the fullness and give shape to the face. If you have square face, you can wear side bangs. As for those who are blessed with long oval face any hairstyle will go – straight, layered, feathered Japanese cut, with/without bangs, bob cut, short messy hair, short layered or even Mohawk.
When we think about hairstyles, in most of the cases we assume it’s only for us girls. We are sooo wrong. Men have grown aware about grooming themselves and that includes hairstyles. We no longer see men with long side burns and flamboyant front hairs.  John Abraham, Imran khan , Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan have all gone for the short army crew cut. I won’t be wrong to say that other s will follow eventually. But there s the other side of the coin where in movies like Rockstar and Rock on ,Ranbir kapoor and Farhan akhtar had the shaggy unruly hairstyles and they still looked oooommmpphhh!! And so did Shahrukh khan in don 2. And how can we forget the “good school boy looks” of Shahid Kapoor .

But no matter what kinda hairstyle one sports , the important thing is the attitude with which one carries it off. After all whats the use if one is “ Long on hair, short on brains. “

Kulraj Randhawa on cosmetic surgery, acting with veterans and playing pranks on Tusshar

Kulraj Randhawa
This model turned actress got her first big break in television in the show ‘Kareena Kareena’ in 2005. Over the years she has tried her luck with Punjabi films and is a popular face up north. She had her first brush with Bollywood in 2010’s big hit ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’. The actress is back with her next film ‘Char Din Ki Chandni’. And as the release date nears, her excitement levels are up. She shares her journey so far with us.

Have you visited Dubai before? What do you enjoy seeing here?
I’ve visited Dubai before. I am completely in love with this city. It’s like a shopping heaven to me.

Tell us about role in ‘Chaar Din Ki Chandni’.The story revolves around an energetic, bubbly girl named Chandni, played by me. She has an inter-caste affair. Chandni seems to have a solution to every complicated situation.

How is Tusshar Kapoor on and off the sets? Did he pull any pranks on you?Tusshar is a lovely friend. It’s been a great opportunity to witness such a humble co-star though he hails from a prestigious film family. He is a thorough professional on the sets with tremendous focus. Off the sets, we’ve had our own sessions where we pulled a lot of pranks on each other!

How does it feel to share screen space with legends like Anupam Kher and Om Puri? Did they give you any acting tips or share any advice about your career? Working with senior actors left me awestruck. There is a lot to learn from these gentlemen. Omji and Anupamji literally walked me through this filming experience. It helped me grow leaps and bounds and kept me on my toes. I was lucky enough to grab a class with Anupamji at his academy.

There are a lot of romantic comedies in queue to hit the theatres, what makes ‘Chaar Din Ki Chandni’ special?
This is a pure Bollywood flick with a fresh outlook. It’s a very colourful film set in Rajasthan. The presence of veteran actors and mind-blowing music that grows on you makes this movie a hard-core entertainer. The remix of ‘Chandini O Meri Chandini’ by RBD is a track you should watch out for.

You are new to the film industry. Do you think there is a lot of pressure on actresses to look good? What do you think about cosmetic surgery? Paying attention to health and fitness is a part and parcel of my profession. I have no complaints, but I strongly believe natural beauty cannot be compared to surgical enhancements. You shouldn’t tamper with nature! However, one cannot deny that minor corrections with the help of surgeries do help you look better at times.

Was your entry into B’wood difficult? What is the best way for aspiring actors to get a foothold in the film industry? The film industry is very competitive but I am happy with whatever I have achieved so far. Of course, the journey is still very long. Coming from a non-filmy background myself, I feel aspiring actors and actresses should be focused and true to themselves. This industry is glitzy on the outside, however a lot of hard work goes into creating what appears on screen.

You became a household name with the show ‘Kareena Kareena.’ Do you miss working in television? The show ‘Kareena Kareena’ on TV was my first big break. It was a great learning experience working on television. Working on a daily soap can be challenging, yet very exciting. It requires commitment and focus. Currently I would like to concentrate on the movies that come my way.

How do you compare the working styles of B’wood to TV?
Bollywood and television have totally different work dynamics. Television shows have a longer life, whereas movies are shorter projects, but much more demanding. What I like about films is that I get the opportunity to play different characters in a shorter time span.

Can you describe the most difficult time you faced during your shoots? The crew of my film has been extremely supportive and all the actors have been taken care of really well. The only time we really faced an issue was when we shot a scene amidst a thousand-strong crowd. While shooting at outdoor locations, extreme weather conditions can take a toll on us.

What are your upcoming projects? Would you reprise your role in the sequel to ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana?’
Currently, my attention is entirely devoted to ‘Chaar Din Ki Chandni’ as the release date is so close. I have been reading a couple of Hindi scripts, but due to my ongoing projects in Punjabi and south films, my hands are full.

Kangna to play Mandakini?

She might play the lead opposite Akshay in 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2'

Kangna Ranaut
The buzz in the industry is that Balaji is on the verge of signing Kangna Ranaut as Dawood Ibrahim’s actress girlfriend in Milan Luthria’s 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2'! So far, only Akshay Kumar has been announced as the hero to play the character of the don. Kareena had been approached to play the lead but she has opted out.

Kangna perhaps would be the best choice for the film considering she had played the lead in 'Once Upton A Time In Mumbaai' and had got accolades for her performance too. Apparently, her character is based on actress Mandakini who was linked with Dawood during her heydays.

But Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji, sounded cagey and wasn’t willing to confirm the news. "We're still in the process of locking the final script. After that, our priority is to finalise the second actor after Akshay. Only then will we figure out the casting for the girls. Perhaps people are speculating on Kangna since she's also in our other production, ‘Shootout At Wadala’,” he said.

We hope Kangna bags this one as the actress really needs some big projects to get her back into the reckoning.

Saif: "I was hit and I defended myself"

The star gives his side of the story after Tuesday night's brawl in a Mumbai restaurant

Saif Ali Khan
t looks like things are not going Saif Ali Khan’s way. Yesterday, the Nawab and his friends were hounded by the media for their reactions to the allegations made by NRI businessman, Iqbal Sharma, that the star punched him at Wasabi restaurant on Tuesday night following an argument. Sharma said Saif and his friends attacked him after he objected to the din they were creating at the table.
Saif, who was arrested and released on bail late in the evening yesterday, made an official statement telling his side of the story. He also filed a counter complaint in the case.

He said, "There was an ugly incident last night where my friends and the ladies with us were abused and I was assaulted."

He further said, "I was hit and I defended myself. I have been to the police station to answer the requirements of law as I am a law-abiding citizen. I have also filed a complaint about what happened last night and I am confident justice will be done."

"I have seen the interviews (of Iqbal Sharma) given on TV. They look like decent people. I cannot believe how aggressive they were the night before and the lies they are telling about me with such straight faces."

"I think they have the CCTV footage in the restaurant that will prove everything. I hope the media is able to remain impartial while the matter is being decided. I don't think any gentleman would have behaved differently."

However, it might not be so easy for the actor to prove his innocence. Incidentally, sources say there is no CCTV in the restaurant so the police will have to rely on witness accounts and their own investigations to find out what actually happened. So Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan who were with Saif as well as other diners at the restaurant are likely to be questioned.

The cops on their part said they haven’t given a clean chit to either Saif or Iqbal and will draw their conclusions only after finding out the details. Meanwhile, Saif’s lawyer told a channel that his client was a “thorough gentleman and would never behave this way.”

Iqbal, on the other hand, is not willing to give up without a fight. He was all over the TV channels accusing the star of abusing and manhandling him. With both sides not ready to negotiate, it looks like we haven’t seen the end of the matter yet.

But will this fracas and negative publicity affect Saif’s next release, ‘Agent Vinod’ remains to be seen.

Dia Mirza plans to get married next year

Bollywood actors may be infamous for keeping their marriage plans under the wrap, but actor-turned-producer Dia Mirza is completely candid about her relationship with Sahil Sangha, business partner and director of her first production venture. “Yes, we are dating, and I will marry him soon…may be  next year itself!” says the actor.
The 29-year-old, who turned producer, joining hands with actorZayed Khan and Sahil, to form Born Free Entertainment Pvt Ltd, plays the lead in her maiden production venture, Love Breakups Zindagi that releases on October 7. The romantic comedy that also stars Zayed, has been directed by beau Sahil, and the actor can’t hide her excitement talking about him.
“Sahil is not just a great director but a wonderful human being too. What I like best about him is his honesty and sincerity in whatever he does. He has brought magic into the film,” said Dia Mirza in an interview to HT City on the sidelines of an event in Tokyo, Japan, where she was recently invited by the Japan National Tourism Organisation and Japan Airlines to promote tourism between Japan and India.
Dia and Sahil’s moms happen to be good friends but it was Sahil’s wonderful script that had floored the actor.
“We just loved his script and both Zayed and I didn’t want to let it go. It was like…straight from the heart and in Born Free we intent to make movies that we really believe in,” said the actor, adding, “I believe true creativity can happen in an environment of freedom, and that’s why we zeroed on the name ‘Born Free’ too. In fact, during the shoot, Zayed and I sometimes fought like crazy but it was all for the sake of good cinema.”
And what about Shah Rukh’s reported cameo in the movie? “The film will have a lot of surprises, so just wait and watch,” the actor signed off, refusing to divulge more..

Aishwarya Rai’s daughter Beti B, not named Abhilasha

The recent buzz about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s daughter Beti B’s name, has been proved false again. Recently when papa Abhishek Bachchan confirmed that Beti B’s name has been finally decided and they will soon reveal it to the world, author Shobhaa De took to twitter and gave us a hint about the baby’s name.
Shobhaa De tweeted, “Beti B to be named Abhilasha? That’s a stroke of genius.Well done,parents. Abhiand Ash.Truly inspired, if true.” But grandpa Amitabh Bachchan was quick enough to respond back to the author. Big B retweeted, “Not true…”
Amitabh has been quite possessive and protective about Beti B. The Bachchans till now have successfully kept the little princess away from the limlight, despite of public excitement and endless speculations. And now, when it has been confirmed by Big B that the name Abhilasha is not the one they have selected for Beti B, we wonder what’s their final chosen name.

Graphic And Girlish White

THE abundance of all-white looks that graced the spring/summer 2012 catwalks can be considered a trend of two halves.

SEE THE TREND ON THE CATWALKS
On one side, Celine, Diane Von Furstenberg, Jil Sander and Stella McCartney favoured precision-cut tailoring and crisp cotton for their take on the new minimalism, for anical bri cool, clilliance.
On the other, Louis Vuitton, Giambattista Valli,Chloe and Dolce & Gabbana cast a pretty spell for spring with girlish white pieces in jumbo broderie anglaise, lace and the sheerest of silks.

Holli Rogers, Buying Director, Net-a-Porter

"Each season the runways of New York, London, Paris and Milan are filled with beautiful fabrics, textures and styles. For spring seasons in particular, we've seen designers offer up strong color palettes that consumers have responded to with open arms. If Cruise 2012 was any indication as to what we will be seeing for Spring 2012, I think bold and strong looks are definitely in the cards."

Water World

A FASCINATION with the ocean depths surged through the spring collections.
At Mary Katrantzou, tropical fish pixelated across taffeta cocktail dresses, while sugary seahorses, starfish and scallop shells played across Versace's Neoprene biker jackets and teeny tailored shorts.
SEE THE TREND ON THE CATWALK
Waves trimmed Stella McCartney's ultramarine slip dresses and Peter Pilotto's flouncing skirts, while Giorgio Armani dived into myth and legend for sea goddess dresses that spelled enchantment.
Accessories don't escape the underwater world and Karl Lagerfeld's treasures for Chanel included a conch-shell clutch and signature pearls nestled in slick hair. At Givenchy, gilded shark teeth medallions were the trophies to covet.
